Today like any other day, is a good day to play Doom...

Point Of No Return Screenshots
Level Of The Day For March 5, 2008

Intro: It's been ages since I did one of these... mainly due to the fact that I haven't finished playing a decent Doom map in all this time (that I can remember). I started playing but never finished Knee Deep In Zdoom or Deus Vult II or Eternal DOOM IV: Return from Oblivion! The reason being that I prefer to edit Doom over playing, so those longer wads get put on the back burner...

Comments: If anything this is a fun map and I played on UV as per usual. I decided to use GZDoom to play the map as I seem to use the port a lot nowadays. Job has some nifty stealth monsters in this map and a couple times I jumped due to being surprised by Imps-right-in my face. There is some fun fighting in the various corridors and crate filled rooms if you don't mind the stealth critters. I'm not a big fan of colored lighting effects but they're not over done here and used to make areas a little more interesting. I liked the layout and the architecture, plus the entry area has a Map04 theme going on, which was kinda neat. The end was a big battle with lots of enemies but I cleaned up most by getting the mancs and spiders fighting and I eneded up using the BFG + SSG to clear up the rest. During the whole map I died about 3 times.... mostly due to stealth revenants. :p There's two trivial things that bugged me.... the Quake 2 'electrical spark' sound which seemed to be heard way too often and the fact that secrets are not tagged as such. Personally I like to know if I missed a secret or not.... no biggie tho. Good short romp IMHO.
Author Sayeth: The atmosphere is intended to be foreboding and very akin to PSX Doom and Final Doom, so don't be surprised to see a lot of darkness in this level. Some ZDoom features included is some sprite things, transparencies, fog and colored lighting. Hopefully you'll feel the tension and atmosphere immerse you. At first this level was meant to be a map04 tribute, and you'll probably see that. But at a certain point it deviates from that into a diffrent style, perhaps more reminiscent of Doom64. The level itself is a security outpost which demons have overrun and later you notice more and more evidence of this...
